About the client
Marshalls is the UK’s leading manufacturer of superior natural stone and innovative concrete hard landscaping products, supplying the construction, home improvement and landscape markets, with revenue of over £390 million. Marshalls has over 3,000 employees based over numerous sites across the UK and overseas. They have paved some of the most iconic developments in the UK, including Trafalgar Square in London, Liverpool’s Waterfront, Canary Wharf London and Media Centre in Salford Quays.

The challenge
Marshalls needed an effective way to engage its extensive workforce of over 3,000 employees and highlight its UK-wide projects in a compelling manner. There was a clear need for a comprehensive internal company magazine that was well-researched, visually appealing, and informative.
Furthermore, they needed in-depth case studies to be used across various marketing materials, which would require substantial research, photography copywriting, content creation, and project management skills.
The solution
We responded to Marshalls' needs by first establishing a strong understanding of the company's culture and then we created an engaging internal company magazine, carefully curating the content, design, and layout to ensure it resonated with the Marshalls' workforce. We covered subjects such as the company’s sponsorship of the International RHS Chelsea Flower Show and a roundup of employee news from across the UK. We managed the entire process from content production to print and delivery.
In parallel, we produced a series of case studies to showcase Marshalls’ project work throughout the UK. We carried out thorough research for each case history project, conducted interviews, and coordinated photoshoots to bring the projects to life. We encapsulated Marshalls' brand ethos and highlighted the full scope of their work, all while maintaining clear, concise, and impactful technical and creative writing.
The result
Talkback magazine has been positively received, and continues to be a showcase for employee achievements, innovation, increasing employee engagement and interaction.
The in-depth case studies have become valuable tools for Marshalls, being used on their website, marketing materials, internal presentations, and by the commercial sales force. Both these initiatives underscored Marshalls' commitment to transparency and innovation, fostering stronger internal communication and enhancing their marketing effectiveness.
